JacTracks overlooking Waterton lake and the mountains

I know what it's like to be brand new to the mountains in Alberta. I am originally from Ontario, prior to moving to Edmonton in 2021. I was used to Muskoka's cottage country, hiking the Niagara escarpment and paddling the Great Lakes. But that's all very different than being in the towering Rockies, descending into literal dinosaur canyons and canoeing fresh mountain lakes located at 6,000 feet above sea level.

Many people from out-of-province are planning trips to see beautiful and famous places like Banff and Jasper but they don't know what they don't know! I've seen some things on my travels around this province that made me launch this site to help all city-slickers and newbies-to-nature enjoy some of the most incredible land on earth.

Chuck Taylor sneakers for the Lake Agnes hike at Lake Louise? NOPE.

Not carrying bear spray or water on a trail in Banff? Wait...what's bear spray?

No jacket for the gondola ride up to the peak of Sulphur Mt. in the middle of July? ...Wait, I need a jacket at 25 degrees C??

JackTracks is a travel blog designed to specifically help people who have never been to Alberta. Whether you just moved here and are determined to take in all the land has to offer or you just want to take your family or friends on a vacation, I'll share everything I have gathered from my own experiences!

Here you'll also find complete trip itineraries, packing & equipment lists, and reviews on everything from restaurants and hotels to actual roads (like which to drive on and which to avoid) and attractions. Most importantly, I'll give you specific intel about things you would never know unless someone from out-of-province told you.
